Grow Systems

Dekker Family Farms is a two acre farm, with 100,000 plants growing vertically in our hydro-ponic growing systems.  We grow a variety of strawberries, peppers, lettuces, spinach and much more.  Our farm is unique to the area and a great destination to see first hand how a hydro-ponic farm operates.

We offer a behind the scenes tour of our farm, which is geared to specific age groups, be it children or adults.  Over the past 2 years we have had the privilege of working with a large number of schools, after school groups and garden groups, in Saint Lucie, Martin, Indian River and Palm Beach County.  We are currently scheduling tours for schools, scout troops, and garden clubs that are looking for a fun, educational local attraction.

Tours Monday-Friday

You will enjoy a behind the scenes Tour of our farm.  A walk about the farm where you will learn the basics and wonders of hydroponic farming.

Almost everyone likes to garden or grow something outside or inside. Some like vegetables, others like flowers or green plants and some people only grow herbs. Dekker Family Farms has made gardening easy and efficient for everyone. You can do it inexpensively as a home gardener or on a large commercial scale.

At Dekker Family farms we replace the soil with a natural growing media that is clean and porous. These soil substitutes consist of coconut fiber, perlite, and sometimes vermiculite. These materials contain very little, if any nutrients that can be absorbed by the plants, but provide a perfect soil substitute. A well balanced fertilizer is then added in a hydroponic or organic solution. Water retention, but not water logging, is the ideal soil substitute. Porosity is the technical term.

The nutrient solution is the most important part of the system. You can have varying degrees of success in many substitute soils, but with the proper nutrient and media you can produce more than you ever thought possible in less space with less fertilizer, less water, and less or no pesticides.
